Australia · modelled estimates · how the number is built

These are modelled estimates, not measurements. No test was taken in any of these places. Each figure is an inference from census composition — education, occupation, income and household structure — and it describes who lives in an area, not what any individual is capable of. The 90% interval is wide and largely common across areas, so treat the ranking as the finding and the absolute number as approximate. Australia, Britain and the United States are each on their own scale (mean 100 inside that country), so compare areas within a country, not across countries. Inside the UK the three nations share one scale — an LSOA in England, a Data Zone in Scotland and one in Northern Ireland are directly comparable, and all three have moved onto it.
